The philosophical discussion underlying Anne-Mare Fortin’s practice reflect on how we constantly redefine ourselves as we enter into relationships with others. 

 “I am very curious about the way we create meaning in our attempts to understand our relationships with others and our social roles.”

Fortin’s sculptures and installations are structured around dialectic movements, oppositions, analogies, and the presence or absence of the human body. Her work questions the identity process through a personal perspective. I’m fine. is a sculpture installation exploring the gender stereotypes ingrained in men’s identity.

Artist’s Biography

Anne-Marie Fortin hold a master’s degree in visual art and a PHD in Arts Studies from Universite du Québec à Montréal.  She is a former sculpture professor and now lives and works in Victoria. Her works has been shown in many solo and collective exhibitions in Quebec, Montreal, Victoria and France.
